AAF Name Changes
For over a year AAF Chairman Murray Gaylord, AAF President and CEO Wally Snyder and AAF Executive Vice President of Club Services Joanne Schecter have encouraged club leaders to better identify with the AAF national brand by changing their club names. We are very pleased to report that the list of clubs that have officially changed their names has grown and continues to grow. Those clubs and districts that have made the move to connect with the national brand are:

Ad Club Seattle celebrated its 100th anniversary at this year's AdBash event on August 21. The fourth annual event was attended by over 500 revelers from Seattle's advertising community, including employees from the area's ad agencies, design firms, publishers, broadcasters, printers and production houses. "It was the best birthday party I've ever been to," said Ad Club President George Riddell. "And the support of the ad industry for AdBash was remarkable."
Over 50 local advertising-related businesses supported AdBash with paid sponsorships. The event's major sponsors included Real Networks and DDB Seattle, who each hosted an anniversary-themed lounge. The décor in each lounge reflected a different decade from the club's history. The promotional material for AdBash was created by Seattle agency Publicis In The West and included 16 different posters depicting mock covers of Adweek magazine from Ad Club Seattle's inaugural year of 1909.
This year's AdBash also served to introduce the return of the ADDY® Awards to the Seattle market after a decades-long absence. ADDY Seattle: The Puget Sound ADDY Awards will be held this winter to celebrate the region's creative advertising excellence.
As of November 1, James Edmund Datri will assume leadership of the AAF, following a transition period that began in September.
"I am thrilled that Jim Datri will be our next president and CEO," said Murray Gaylord, chairman of the AAF board of directors. "The advertising industry is in the midst of the most profound transformation in 50 years, and Jim truly understands the unique challenges for marketers, advertising agencies and the media in today's landscape. The search committee developed a long list of criteria, and Jim matched all."
Datri, most recently a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery in McDermott's Government Strategies Practice Group, based in Washington, D.C., graduated from Harvard Law in 1992. He has a long track record of engagement with advertising industry issues and concerns and worked with the AAF during the foundation of the Mosaic Center on Multiculturalism.
Said current AAF President and CEO, Wally Snyder, "I have known Jim Datri from his time on Capitol Hill and his work with the AAF on our issues and programs. He will bring energy and enthusiasm as he represents our members both in Washington and in their communities. I know he will continue to unify our membership and our industry as we move forward."
"I am honored to take on this new opportunity for leadership and service, during a time of immense change in the advertising industry," said Datri. "The AAF has a large and diverse membership, including ad clubs, college chapters, national advertisers, ad agencies, television networks, newspaper and magazine publishers, and leading media companies and service providers. The AAF is an effective and dynamic organization, whose membership I look forward to serving."

AAF Book Drive
In the spirit of its commitment to education, the American Advertising Federation will hold a three-week nationwide book drive to promote literacy among disadvantaged children and youth—from October 27 to November 18. The drive will be held in conjunction with the Books for Kids Foundation. The new public service project demonstrates the advertising industry's comprehensive understanding of corporate responsibility and the value and vital importance of education. Books for Kids Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) charitable organization in its 20th year. They have provided children with more than five million books with an estimated retail value of $45 million, built over 50 libraries and distributed reading materials through approximately 280 agencies. The AAF is asking members from its college chapters, clubs and corporate organizations and companies to donate new children's books for children in grades kindergarten through third, written in English or Spanish. Additionally, the AAF is teaming up with FedEx to make shipping more cost-effective for our members. In order to facilitate the shipment of books to Books for Kids headquarters, FedEx is offering all participants a discount of up to 25% on FedEx Express® services and up to 12% on FedEx Ground® services. To take advantage of this benefit, simply go to: http://enrollpreview.visionary.com/2153/ and enter promotion code 58R5R1 or call a FedEx Association Enrollment specialist toll free at (877) 269-0605.
